How the Lap Day Calculator Works
✖️ Classic 7× method
Your age grows 1 year per year. Your dog's "dog age" grows 7 years per year.
Your dog starts at zero later, so it catches up at:
Lap Day = dog's birthday + (age gap ÷ 6)
The age gap is the time between your birthday and your dog's.
The age gap is the time between your birthday and your dog's.
Example: you were 30 when your dog was born. Your Lap Day is 5 years later, when you're both 35.
🐕 Size-aware method
| Dog's life stage | Human-year equivalent |
|---|---|
| First year | about 15 |
| Second year | about +9 (24 total) |
| Each later year | +4 small · +5 medium · +6 large |
The calculator checks day by day until your dog's estimate reaches your age. If the gap is too big to close, it tells you.
⚠️ Limits
- All dog-year conversions are rough approximations.
- Breeds within a size class age differently.
- 🔒 Your dates never leave your browser.
